Vampire movie raises funds with fang auction on bidorbuy

An auction for Van Coke's Fangs , as worn in the teaser for the forthcoming film Bloedsuiers , has opened today on South African marketplace www.bidorbuy.co.za .

The auction is likely to attract the attention of Francois van Coke fans, movie fans, memorabilia collectors, as well as collectors of unique objects.

The winning bidder for Van Coke's Fangs gets a display case with a mould of custom-made vampire dentures that the musician-turned-actor Francois van Coke wears in the movie, as well as an autographed set of Van Coke's character photographs.

Bloedsuiers is set to start shooting next month. It is the first Afrikaans-language vampire film ever. The proceeds from the bidorbuy auction will go towards financing the production.

Anyone who wishes to possess the unique artefact and to contribute to the project may register on bidorbuy.co.za and bid on Van Coke's Fangs .

The auction opens on Tuesday 21 June and runs until Monday 27 June. The opening bid for the display case, valued at R5 000, is R801.

Bloedsuiers producers are also relying on the so-called crowd sourcing to raise additional funds. From 20 to 26 June, movie fans may pledge from as little as R30 on the movie's website .

“We are very pleased that the producers have chosen bidorbuy.co.za as one of their fundraising channels,” says bidorbuy CEO Jaco Jonker. “This shows that more and more businesses and ventures recognise the benefits of using our site as a platform for promotion and income generation.”

Jonker says that Group 1 Midrand car dealership recently marked the launch of Geely LC 1.3 GT by auctioning a demo model , with merely 25km odometer reading, on bidorbuy. The auction lasted one day only and started from R1, without reserve. “The response was phenomenal and the car was sold to the highest bidder for R75 000. Afterwards, the same dealership sold several more Geely vehicles on bidorbuy, at fixed prices.”

Another example that Jonker cites is that of Velvet Sky, the new low-cost South African airline, which auctioned several return tickets for two flights, from Cape Town to Johannesburg and one from from Johannesburg to Cape Town . The auctions started at R1, without reserve, and the tickets were sold for between R676 and R1 250.

“Presence on bidorbuy guarantees good exposure, because this is one of the sites that South Africans access most often,” says the bidorbuy CEO. “It makes sense for businesses, entrepreneurs and other ventures to use this highly visible platform if they have something to sell. They get access to a large number of Internet-connected South Africans, with practically no risk.
