Fox Announces Fall Premiere Dates

This morning Fox network announced its fall schedule, which will bring two high-expectations series, The X Factor and Terra Nova , to air in September along with the sitcom New Girl. Animated comedy Allen Gregory and live-humans comedy I Hate My Teenage Daughter will be along later in the fall; the rest of Fox's new shows (such as Alcatraz) wait for midseason.

As for the long-awaited, much-delayed dino-drama Terra Nova, I've seen it, sort of. What do I think of it? I can't say. Fox held a screening of the first hour of the two-hour pilot earlier in the month, but asked, just before the video rolled, that no one present share any opinion of the work, on Twitter or elsewhere. In retrospect, had I known in advance this was a condition of the screening, I probably would have passed.

(Screenings like that have value for arts editors and feature writers, but for a critic--whose job it is to make judgments on shows--they're a little pointless, and they risk making you into a PR arm of the network. I'm starting to think that "don't tweet" screenings are becoming the entertainment-journalism equivalent of off-the-record; useful sometimes, but overused. But in the specific case of Terra Nova, I probably would not have done a Test Pilot post based on one-half of a two-hour pilot anyway.)

Anyway, what I can confirm for you is that Terra Nova... exists! At least half of it!

He's the tough, ultra–dependable Irishman whom Scott had hand–picked for his doomed Terra Nova expedition (1910–12); and who not only survived that voyage, but two other great Antarctic odysseys: an earlier one with Scott (on Discovery, in 1901–04) and

Question about TerraNova tests - General Parenting Forums

Our district only has the 2nd graders take the TerraNova's as prep for starting the PSSA's in 3rd grade. The results were mailed home and school is out for the summer so it is difficult to ask questions to clarify. Overall the girls did fine but one of Nicole's scores was very low for her, she scored at the 22nd percentile in Verbal Reasoning -words and 96th percentile Verbal Reading -context. Does this 74 percentile spread seem odd to anyone who is familiar with the tests? Janna had a 6 percentile spread and I was just wondering what would be typical(not that there maybe a typical). I'm also trying to find practice questions to see if we can work on some of the concepts of the test at home this summer. Any ideas? I'm assuming those are very similiar to the state tests we do here. As a teacher I put very little stock in those tests. I've had my top students score poorly on them, and my bottom of the barrel, barely even able to read (in 4th/5th grade), come out proficient or advanced. If she is doing well on regular classwork and tests, then I wouldn't worry about them. I'm not familiar with the version of Terra Nova that your 2nd grade dd took, but fwiw my 5th grader took the Terra Nova last year in school and had what was a very unexpected low score on one specific subject. In his case, his teachers suspected he'd gotten off by a line on marking bubbles, ie skipped one line and then all of the other answers were off. OTOH, sometimes a learning disability will show up in a large discrepancy such as that. If your dd has had any kind of struggles at all with reading, I'd look at what each subtest specifically tests (what type of questions are asked, what skill is the subtest attempting to measure). Does that correlate back to anything your dd has had trouble with in school? Chances are this is *not* an issue for your dd, but fwiw if she's had any kind of struggles with reading, it's worth looking into. Just got our results back along with her report card (2nd Grade as well). Like you, we were confused with the scoring and some of it made no sense whatsoever. Her problem seemed to be in the Math portion (reasoning etc)overall she fell slightly below. However, on the Geometry section she scored 100% and the other sections she was getting anywhere in the 45-60% range. Go figure on that. Don't ask me how they score them.
