Field Aviation Sells First Dash 8 Flight Deck Modernization to Commercial Operator

Field Aviation has signed a significant contract with Air Iceland for the modernization of flight decks on two “classic” series Bombardier Dash 8 Q200 aircraft.

The announcement comes just six weeks after Field Aviation completed its first major flight deck modernization on a Dash 8 Q300 maritime surveillance aircraft belonging to the Icelandic Coast Guard, and marks the company’s first sale to a commercial Dash 8 operator.

Field Aviation’s upgrade package features five Universal Avionics EFI-890R large format flat panel high definition displays with dual Vision-1® Synthetic Vision Systems as the centre point of its flight deck modernization program. As part of this upgrade, over forty existing mechanical instruments will be replaced in Air Iceland’s instrument panel and center pedestal alone, from their two recently acquired electro-mechanical equipped Dash 8 Q200s. Aside from the new displays, this modernization program also includes a Primus 880 Weather Radar, Universal Avionics Dual UNS-1EW Flight Management System and Dual Radio Control Units which all work in unison to reduce pilot workload and clearly present the flight crew with advanced navigation information.

In addition to the flight deck modernization program, Field Aviation will incorporate its proprietary Gross Weight Increase and Long Range Fuel STCs on both aircraft. The aircraft are expected to arrive at Field’s Toronto facilities by the end of June with first delivery by the end of September.

Commenting on Air Iceland’s decision to select Field Aviation as the integrator for both flight deck and airframe upgrades on its two Dash 8 Q200 aircraft, Guðbjartur I. Torfason, director technical operations said, “We wanted to engage a company with a proven track record of experience on Dash 8 aircraft and the ability to offer a full complement of existing avionics, structural and system modifications within a very tight schedule. Field’s flight deck modernization solution based on the EFI-890R is state of the art and fits very nicely with our decision to maintain the Dash 8 aircraft as the long term airframe of choice. The environment in which we operate is challenging, and these new systems will all work together to increase the aircraft’s operational capability, while providing a safer, more reliable method of travel. Another important factor is the projected maintenance cost savings as a result of more modern and fewer instruments as well as anticipated efficiencies of training new and existing pilots on a more ‘state-of-the-art’ flight deck”.

Mesa Airlines – A Brilliant Potential with New Beginnings ...

You would be able to write a whole book about Mesa Airlines as it has such a large amount of history behind it. A lot of hard graft was put in to allow this airline to develop and increase their fleet of aircraft. Things really changed for Mesa Airlines after the September 11 attacks on NY, as they decided to seize control of their future. Even though the airline had to enter bankruptcy briefly, they have maintained profitable quarters each year since the end of 2001. The company’s administration has certainly done a great job, and the company has done a lot to get where it is now. Let’s face it; whether it’s about picking an airlines or something related to collectible signs , it’s constantly much better that you just go using the leader within the field.

Mesa Airlines, associated with the Mesa Air Group, is opening up opportunities for prospective pilots who are achieving their flying wings. There’s a program fitted to offer an ultimate learning experience called the Mesa Pilot Development program. Mesa has a partnership agreement with Arizona State University to work toward that end. Pupils who go to Arizona State University and complete the four year term for their Bachelor degree will also receive the needed paperwork for the pilot’s license. At that time, the candidate will be given what is called a “preferential interview” with the Mesa Air Group for the position of First Officer which means, the copilot.

Mesa Airlines started from the humblest beginnings when they had only one lone aircraft that served two cities. After ten years they had grown to have 38 planes that took passengers to around 63 cities all over the US. They went from a corporation that was private to one that was public, and they started trading on the NASDAQ stock exchange. Midwest Express Airlines and Mesa Airways agreed to a partnership of code sharing. Thanks to this agreement the airline could now charter flights out of Milwaukee, in Wisconsin. United Express was created thanks to a code sharing agreement between Mesa and United Airlines. It allowed United Express to run operations from Denver, Colorado. Just like businesses within the beer signs enterprise make excellent profits, Mesa Airlines does the identical in its own market.

Mesa formed a partnership with a major airline in 2003. The airline in question was the well known United Airlines. This specific deal enabled Mesa to start up operations from a number of new airports, one of them being Denver. And from this a new airline was born. It was called United Express Airlines. To this day United Express have only used Bombardier aircraft in their fleet. The end of 2009 bought the end of use for the Dash 8 aircraft, which was simply a decision the management wanted to make.
