Bignell heard an officer with the city police technological crime unit identified a local computer using an Internet Protocol (IP) address on Aug. 6 that was believed to be sharing 38 suspected child pornography files.

The officer established one-to-one contact with that computer, recording the file names and sizes of the files being shared, prosecutor David Kirk said.

He also downloaded four suspected child pornography files, the assistant Crown attorney said.

Two of the files, which met the Criminal Code definition of child pornography, had videos of adult males involved in sexual acts with young girls.

The address was traced to Bumbacco's computer at his Wellington Street East residence.

On Aug. 19, police, armed with a search warrant, went to the home where Bumbacco, who "appeared to be shocked," denied downloading and possessing child pornography.

Officers discovered a hard drive, hidden under a mattress in his bedroom, Kirk said.

Bumbacco told them "I did it. I think I have a problem. I don't know how to stop.''

A forensic computer analysis found 394 child pornography videos and 30 images of child pornography.
