ABOVE: The first three teams in the Ozsome Race head out to their first location after meeting at the Downtwon Fountain. Racers had to recognize familiar tunes at KartTunz, locate tractor identification numbers at Keating Tractor, find flowers at Liberal Garden Center and receive a text from EPIC’s Chloe before heading to Summerfest and finding Dorothy. The first team to complete all the tasks qualified for the final Ozsome Race where the winner receives $2,000.  “I read this in the first page of the paper, and I showed it to him,” Jo said. “I said, ‘You know, we have joked about doing the Amazing Race for years, but my health issues wouldn’t allow me to keep that kind of pace for that long.’ I said, ‘This is as close as we are ever going to get.’ He said, ‘Sign us up!’ So here we are.” The top finishers in this round of the race, Chet and Jo Oliphant, were able to name three of the first four songs identified by the contestants. Several other songs went unidentified before then though, and the other song title, Rick Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl,” was easily determined by Hammock’s granddaughter, 12-year-old Makayla Jensen. “The songs, they were songs that I knew,” Chet said. “I knew almost every song that he played, but my mind just went blank as soon as I heard the music. I think it was the Prince song, I was torn between one of two songs. I was looking at (Jo) because I knew this was one of her favorites. Then I just got it, ‘Little Red Corvette.’ The Elton John one I just didn’t know.” “When we got to Keating Tractor, I was trying to make it too simple,” Chet said. “I should have known to look at the plate, because that is where everything is. He said, ‘I will give you a quick hint, it is not going to be anywhere obvious,’” he explained. “So, I looked for the plate and saw it on the back. When I stopped there at the last, I went back to look one more time because I wasn’t sure I wrote down the last digit correctly. I am glad I did because it was wrong. So, I changed it and went back.” The team was asked to find a serial number on a tractor, a number known to the employees of Keating, but not given to any of the teams. Once the number was located on the tractor, one of the members would take that to an employee to see if it matched.
