CKY are a band who remind me of being at school again & the time of doing my A Levels, having had some quality songs during the early 00′s but I had somewhat lost track of their activities since. They were a superbly entertaining opening band attracting a huge crowd for the first act of the day and they were rewarded with some great songs including my old favourites Sink Into The Underground and 96 Quite Bitter Beings. “Everyone hates but Download loves us, so thanks very much” was the amusing verbiage from frontman Deron Miller. I don’t know if many people hate CKY but on this showing they’ll be very welcome back to Donington, a great kick off to proceedings.

Ouch is all i can say to this show, lead singer Wes Scanlon sounds like he needs to warm up properly before coming on stage, his groan was so bad it hurt my ears. Obviously as the performance went on his voice warmed up and he was back to his grunge goodness, singing favourites from my nu-metal youth such as Control, War Pigs, She Hates Me.

A particularly  good point of the show was when they covered AC/DC – TNT – this had a very special point for my friends i went with as one of my group tom reckons that the vocal notes and bass lines are his “Brown Note” (research that if you’ve never heard it) so we proceeded to sing it to him watching to see if his trousers grew at the back.

Not the usual type of band RoadRunner Records sign, the Swedish foursome from Malmö put on a great live show. The charisma of their front-man Adam Grahn is outstanding, he animates every lyric he says with his whole body, the whole time keeping up the funky rock beats. Check this band out if you havent heard them, i think of them as a rockier Frans Ferdinand with more style and grace.
